Droppr is one of the new Start2Scale-up partners of LogiVille. This young company offers two platforms: Droppr Shipping and Droppr Network. The first ‘matches’ companies with transporters and the second transporters and subcontractors with each other. CEO Lennert Moens and COO Sanjay Aerts explain how both work and how Droppr can promote collaboration in the transport sector.<\/strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who is behind Droppr?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Sanjay: Lennert and I got to know each other for about four years at BD Media\/BD Logistics, where we both worked. Our paths parted after a while because Lennert had started freelancing for a few companies, but we stayed in touch. We regularly talked about the inefficiencies in the transport sector. At a certain point we thought: “How can we remedy this?”. This gave rise to the idea of developing a system that would improve the fill rate of trucks and optimise transports. This led to the establishment of Droppr in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the concept of Droppr?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Lennert: As mentioned, there are still too many inefficiencies in the transport sector. Sanjay and I came to the conclusion that with more cooperation between the carriers, the filling rate of the trucks could be significantly improved. In addition, we notice that transport requires a lot of documentation and administration, such as permits and insurance. Transporters who want to work together sometimes find it difficult to check the correctness of that documentation. This problem is also often discussed by sector federations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is how we came up with the idea of developing a solution that increases the fill rate and improves the management of the documentation. By centralizing, managing and controlling the latter, compliance problems with the subcontractors could be avoided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To this end, we have developed two platforms: Droppr Shipping, which was launched a year ago, and Droppr Network, which just went live on 1 October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can you outline Droppr Shipping?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Sanjay: From our experience in transport, we saw that companies had to pay high prices at times to ship pallets and goods, while at the same time hundreds of trucks were driving around with unused cargo space, which also costs money. Indeed, a study shows that in Belgium, the average filling level of trucks is 48%. This is partly due to the often empty return journeys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By ‘matching’ shipments from companies with carriers that still have free loading space, costs and empty kilometers can be reduced. So it is a win-win for the sender and the carrier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We actually started about a year ago. First on a small scale and in the Antwerp-Mechelen region, but due to the success we have grown quickly. Today, 400 companies and 120 transporters are on our platform and we cover the whole of Europe. The customers are mainly located in the Benelux, France and Italy. Most of the carriers connected to the platform are Belgian international carriers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the difference with a freight exchange?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Lennert: We get that question regularly. Freight exchanges are usually focused on international shipments and on the large volumes… And the prices are often substandard. We focus on both large volumes and partial loads, we set the price ourselves – together with the sector, so that it is correct – and we make the match between the sender and the carrier. Compare it to an Uber, but for transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Isn’t it difficult to lock in the price?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Sanjay: We challenge our prices every week and use AI to verify them. This is done in consultation with our partners to ensure that it is in place. We don’t want to destroy the market. That’s a difficult exercise, I admit, but we’ve been working on it for a year now and with that experience we can become more and more accurate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are you mainly finding ‘last minute’ assignments on the platform?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Sanjay: No. It’s a mix, because in our model anything is possible. We can detect carriers in the vicinity of a shipment or who are already on their way in the same direction. Droppr automatically checks the available loading space for those goods or pallets. That makes a quick match possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But it can also be about planned collections and\/or deliveries where a date is agreed and various options are put forward. It can also happen that a transporter says that he is in the area today but will not deliver until tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s the interesting thing about the Droppr Shipping platform: we can match the needs of the shipper and the carrier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On LogiVille, Droppr Network is mainly put in the spotlight. What is that platform?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Sanjay: That is our second module, which went live on October 1 after extensive testing with carriers that are on Droppr Shipping and with a number of larger players such as Van Moer, PostNL and GLS. Six months ago, we also organized a knowledge session in LogiVille with these key players to better develop Droppr Network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The principle is that we centralize the management of documents about subcontractors, but also facilitate the finding of reliable subcontractors when necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We screen the documentation, for example for the validity of the permits. Is that transport permit correct? Hasn’t it expired? With AI, we also visually check whether the documents have been tampered with. And then we give a compliancy score. By centralizing and managing the documentation, we want to create a network of subcontractors who are reliable and compliant. These can be Belgian companies, but also transporters in other Member States or non-EU carriers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lennert: In other words, we collect all documents – permits, insurances and so on – and digitize them. This information is uploaded to the platform. We read it in and use AI to check whether all the data is correct and in order. So we extract information that may have been ‘adjusted’ with Photoshop, ChatGPT and so on. This is a very complex process, but by training the AI models, we are getting better and better at identifying the deviations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who are Droppr Network’s customers?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Lennert: It is mainly transporters who want to have more insight and control over their pool of subcontractors. They do not want to use staff to do all those checks themselves, because that is very time-consuming without a technological solution. We manage and control the data and documentation for them in a smarter way. It is not necessarily a question of identifying rogue subcontractors – unfortunately there are some of them – but also of assisting in the management of all these documents. For example, we can point out to a subcontractor that a certain permit will expire soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are the interfaces between the two platforms?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Sanjay: Droppr Shipping improves the fill rate of the trucks and Droppr Network optimizes the cooperation between carriers by ensuring that a general contractor finds subcontractors with the right transport equipment and permits. In both cases, Droppr is therefore a matchmaker: between a shipper and a carrier on the one hand and between carriers themselves on the other. The difference is that at Droppr Network we are also a ‘gate keeper’, because we use AI to check whether all documentation is in order and to remove any fraudsters and cheaters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How big is Droppr today?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Lennert: Today we are active in Temse with seven people, but by the end of the year there will be nine of us. There are four programmers, including the CTO, one marketer who has to give Droppr more visibility and then Sanjay and myself. As CEO, I take care of more operational and overarching tasks and Sanjay takes care of the commercial part. Soon, by the way, two people with a commercial profile will be added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why did Droppr become a partner of LogiVille?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Sanjay: During our contacts with TLV and Febetra, it was pointed out to us that LogiVille would be an excellent communication channel because in Start2Scale-up Avenue, companies like ours can introduce themselves and profile themselves. At that time it was still a bit too early because Droppr Shipping was still under development. But as soon as we were ready for the market, we contacted Dirk Lambrechts of VIL, who in turn introduced us to LogiVille. At our booth we present Droppr visually, but we also have a demo where transporters can discover what we can do for them based on anonymized data.
