Inland shipping is facing a major transition. As vehicles become increasingly electrified, the demand for charging capacity for barges will also grow. How can we make inland shipping more sustainable without having to rely on fixed shore-based power installations?

With the Floating Battery project, VIL and Sirris worked on a flexible and future-proof solution. Battery containers supply power during mooring and serve as charging infrastructure for battery-electric ships in locations without fixed facilities.

In light of the EU’s Fit for 55 initiative and the growing need for shore power and charging points, Floating Battery offers an innovative alternative for inland shipping.
