The logistics demonstration and experience center

Closing event Flanders Living Labs – combine smarter, ride less

Delivery and liveability go hand in hand: the future of urban logistics

Cities are under pressure when it comes to logistics. Whilst logistics service providers are seeing their planning become increasingly complex, residents and local traders are feeling the effects of heavier traffic, deliveries at peak times and limited space. How can we make urban logistics more efficient and sustainable for residents, local traders and logistics service providers?

Within the Horizon Europe project GREEN-LOG, Ghent, Mechelen and Leuven joined forces. Together with various partners, they spent three years researching new solutions in the Flanders Living Labs.

In the Flanders Living Labs, an innovative Logistics as a Service (LaaS) platform was tested that connects residents, local traders and logistics service providers. Residents and local traders posted their transport requests on the platform, and bike couriers offered their logistics services via the LaaS. Those who were flexible with delivery times helped the logistics service provider to work more efficiently. This could even lead to lower costs for the end user.

Discover the results at this closing event:

  • You will gain a clear insight into how the LaaS platform works;
  • The cities will share their approach, experiences and key lessons learnt;
  • We will discuss the future of the LaaS platform and the conditions under which it could continue.
